Thrifty Thursday Number Three:

Being a ‘lady of leisure’ on a ‘shoestring budget’ is a funny combination. But the thing I really appreciate about it is that it really gets you using your imagination. I have always wanted to be that person who takes her camera everywhere, makes regular visits to op-shops, has enough time to read comics, enough time for crafting, enough time to shop at local markets and to make yummy meals, enough time to spend with family, enough time to actually maintain a blog and update it regularly, enough time for exercise, and enough time to draw. And now I do have enough time, and I am that kind of person! And oh my, it is great.

I know this point in my life is rather special, and it won’t last forever. My business plans with my sister are looming quite close, so I must remember to appreciate this time while I still have it.

I don’t know where you are reading from right now, but where I’m at in Adelaide, as I’ve said before, the weather has become rather brisk. So I thought I’d post this relatively ‘springy’ tutorial on making paper flowers. They are really super mega easy and quick to make, so you should have a try yourself, and let me know how you go!

Things you will need:
– Old comic books
– Scissors
– Masking tape
– Sticks

Step 1.
Unpick the staples in the center of your book and take each sheet out. [Be careful not to rip any!]

Step 2.
Cut each sheet in half horizontally. [It doesn’t need to be exact.] Each half sheet will make one flower.

Step 3.
For a larger bloom: Fold each strip in half horizontally.

For a smaller bud: Fan-fold each strip so it looks like this:

Step 4.
Starting from the center fold, cut small strips perpendicular to the strip of paper, but be sure to leave about 1cm at the end of each snip.

Step 5.
Stick each strip to a piece of masking tape that is longer than the strip.

Step 6.
Roll it tightly around a stick – making sure the tape stays on the same line.

Step 7.
Pull down and ‘un-bend’ each of your petals, so the flower will open out.

Aaaand, fin. Don’t they look great?!
